Do You Think You Know How To Accessorize? Better Check This First

Many fashionistas will tell you that your outfit is incomplete without accessories and in most cases they are certainly right. Sometimes it’s all in the details, and trust me these tiny little trinkets can take an outfit from drab to fab in a matter of seconds–if done correctly that is. Accessories are about more than just fashion, they help us to express ourselves, to stand out from the crowd especially when we have to abide by certain fashion rules at work or even at church.  Yes, sometimes these belts, scarves, hats, jewellery, shoes are the only things that we can use to separate ourselves from the rest of the flock.

Add Pops of Color

If you’re outfit is lacking in the color department you can always add pops of color with your accessories. Whether it’s a cute red bag or heels, or a brightly colored scarf or necklace, this is a great way to spice up your ensemble.

Layering Is Good

Layering is a great trend and it works really well with jewellery whether it rings, necklaces or bracelets. Of course you don’t want to overdo it, especially for occasions such as work. This trend works better with casual outfits or events such as concerts, clubs etc.

Proportions Are Important

The proportion of your accessories must work with the proportions of your outfit. When wearing large, oversized clothing don’t go the same route with your bags, belts, etc. instead go the opposite route and opt for small dainty pieces. However if you’re wearing a simple or sleek outfit, large, bold, chunky pieces are perfect.

Don’t Overdo It

Accessories are supposed to enhance your outfit not overpower it. It really does take a little time to master the art of accessorizing, so if you’re unsure think ‘less is more.’ You don’t want to end up looking like a kid playing dress up. Keep in mind also that different occasions call for different types of accessories. For business related events exercise restraint- a simple pair of earrings or a belt and scarf will do. However, a fun night on the town allows for more flexibility.

Add Belts

Don’t just think that a belt is for keeping your pants from falling down –although it does help. But belts are great accessories for any and every occasion so don’t be afraid use them. If you have a dress that is too billowy you can wear a belt to add some definition, or wear a belt with a cute dress to cinch your waist and create an hourglass figure.
